How to Survive Back To School Season

How to Survive Back To School Season

How is it already time to go back to school? I say it every year, but I am always shocked at how fast the summer flies by and how little I feel like I did. This back to school season is especially weird and nostalgic for me because I am about to start my last year of school.... ever. Yes, you read that right, EVER. I am starting my senior year of college on Monday. How crazy is that? That means I will be done and graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Public Relations after just 3 years.  I am beyond excited to never have a first day of school again, mostly because of the homework.. not so much because of the shopping spree I give myself as an excuse for heading back to school. Whoops, sorry bank account.

Speaking of shopping for back to school, today's post is all about tips on how to survive the back to college season and Shop Side of Guac and Ivory Clasp were generous enough to gift me the perfect back to school outfit!  Check out my back to school tips and outfit details below:

1.  Be prepared.

Check out the courses syllabus and book list before your first day of class so you know exactly what to expect. If you are still trying to plan your schedule, check the website rate my professor where you can find out ratings, comments and information on all the professors available at your college or university. If you are a freshman, try to make it to the school once before the first day to map out your classes and plan your routes.

2.  Make studying a priority.

I will be the first to admit, I am not a good studier. I am a very good student, but when it comes to studying I just cannot sit down and go over material. My mind goes about 197275 miles a minute so even if I try to study, my mind wanders and I can't help but think about all the other things I have to check off my to do list.

3. Get involved on campus.

If you knew me in high school, you would know that I did my very best to fly under the radar. I was never a part of any time, I never had many friends or considered myself involved or popular with the student body. Fast forward to now,  college is a whole new ball game. No matter what your major is, I guarantee there is a club or program associated with. GET INVOLVED! One of the most beneficial things I have done for my education and my future is get involved with the UVU chapter of PRSSA. I am now serving on the executive board as the VP of Media Production and heading to Boston in the fall for the international conference all because I took the leap to get involved.  There is nothing I would recommend more for your college experience!

4. Give yourself a mental health break and time for a social life.

We all know that with back to school comes loads of homework and loads of stress. For me, there is hardly enough time in the day to do everything I want to do. It's like pick 3: a social life, working out, doing homework, sleeping, eating or anything else you might want to do in your day. It is important to take the time in your day to find something you enjoy, find an outlet, find a hobby.

5. Dress for success.

I may be a little biased on #5, but my motto in life is look good, feel good. I was always told, dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Fashion is one of the things I love most in this life, it is an outlet for me and a way I express myself and my personality. Even if it's just buying a new pair of shoes or a t shirt for the new school year, you'll be starting out on the right foot. I recommend checking out Shop Side of Guac and Ivory Clasp for all your back to school fashion finds!
