It’s perfect for all your Easter festivities and wedding season is just around the corner. Thank you so much Poppy and Dot for collaborating with me!
I love spring and the feeling of new beginnings that comes with it. There is just something about waking up to sunshine and birds chirping. This winter has been extra difficult for me. I have felt a lack of motivation, sluggish, tired and even a little bit of seasonal depression. Now that the sun is shining here, my attitude has made a complete 360 change. It is easier for me to wake up in the morning, I have a less painful time trying to get myself to go to the gym and my overall outlook in life is much more positive. Often times, when spring rolls around we feel the need to change our wardrobe, dye our hair, clean out our closet and just spring clean our lives.
I have compiled a list of 5 tips to help you transition to warmer weather and spring forward with a positive attitude and a new beginning.
1. Clean out your closet.
It sounds simple, but if you guys are anything like me, I am a habitual clothes hoarder. I like to hold on to my stuff in hopes an occasion will pop up that I will need that certain article of clothing. It seems like the second I get rid of something, I end up wishing I had it. Here’s a tip: turn all your hangers one direction and when you take that shirt off the hanger to wear it, flip the hanger around. After a couple months, you will be able to see what articles of clothing you really don’t wear and you’ll be able to toss it out. One of my favorite activities is cleaning out my closet and taking my unwanted clothing items to Plato’s Closet for some extra cash. It’s always rewarding to donate your clothes as well. Not to encourage spending money on clothes, but a spring shopping spree is never a bad idea, but first you’ve got to make room in your closet!
2. Refresh your relationships.
Spring is the time to analyze your romantic relationships and your friendships. If you aren’t being treated like gold, you’ve got to get out out. Since I am a communications major, I tend to think I know way more about effective communication than I probably do. What I have discovered time and time again is that if things aren’t being reciprocated and there isn’t a mutual give and take going on, relationships don’t work out. If you are holding on to relationships that no longer make you feel good, drop them. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, quality over quantity. Your bad relationships are well past their ‘best if used by’ date and now’s the time to spring clean them right out of your life.
3. Rejuvenate your health.
I am the type of person that cringes at the word “diet”. I don’t believe anyone should deprive themselves of what makes this world good (cookies, ice cream, donuts, cake, etc.). Can you tell I suffer from a terrible sweet tooth? However, I am all about a good food cleanse. It’s 80% in the kitchen, 20% in the gym. It took me a while to realize I am worth way more than what the scale at the doctor’s office (the only time I will step on one) tells me. Those numbers don’t define me. It is all about how I feel. I have recently been having some stomach issues making it hard for me to enjoy food like I should. The good news is, watching what I eat and making sure I am putting food in my body that is good for me has in turn made me feel even better. I go to the gym 2 0r 3 times a week for about an hour or so and it’s enough to make my body happy. It’s not about how you look, it’s all about how you feel. Happy body, happy life.
4. Fine tune your passions and talents.
I’m sure you all know by now how passionate I am about my career and interests in public relations, social media, writing and fashion. This blog is just another on the list of my hobbies. Often times, life gets in the way and we are forced to put our hobbies on hold. Adulting sucks. We all have a giant To Do list on top of 1500 other obligations. I can’t stress enough how important it is to nurture yourself and work on yourself every day. Make time for what you love, even if it is just for five minutes. This spring is the perfect time to take up piano lessons, learn to water ski or even just read more often. Whatever it is, do more of it.
5. Spot clean your financials.
Money aka the dreaded topic. I’ll be honest, the only financial experience and knowledge I have is from my 6 month job at Zions Bank. However, I will tell you that spring is the time to start budgeting. Save for your summer trips and get your finances in order. Cut back on your online shopping and make a plan on how to put a portion of your paycheck away for a rainy day each month.
All in all, spring is the season of rebirth and renewal. Follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to a fresh, clean slate and some cute spring clothes from Poppy and Dot.
